Rehearsal Policies and Procedures

1. Attend all rehearsals

You must be present for rehearsals every time you are called.  If there is an illness or a conflict a parent must email the teachers to let them be aware of an absence.  If there are habitual absences (more than 2) with or without excuses, the student may or may not be able to return to class.  This will be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on circumstances.  You will be responsible for checking your email and going to www.alktheatercompany.com to check the rehearsal schedule.

2. Give 100% at rehearsals

We understand that we may ask some strange requests and that everyone has their own personal “best.”  “I don’t want to” is NOT an option in this class unless an acceptable reason is given. Have an open mind and listen to what directors tell you.  Be willing to try new things!

3. Come to class with the appropriate items

The only items needed and required in rehearsals are your SCRIPT, PENCIL (no pens!), and WATER BOTTLE.  That means no computers, no cell phones, any other school items, and no personal items.  Cell phones will be locked up during rehearsals and given back at the end of class. If it is brought to our attention that a cell phone was not given to the teacher and locked up, the directors will take it to the office for a parent to pick up.  Excessive breaking of this rule may result in being sent out of rehearsal and a conference with parents.

4. Talking is not permitted during rehearsals

Talking during rehearsals create an unproductive environment.  It is difficult to get things done, shows disrespect for directors, fellow actors, and the work that is being done.  It also indicates inattentiveness and being on task. Excessive talking may result in being sent out of class and a conference with parents.

5. Treat the space as you would a broadway theater

When you are in rehearsal the space is no longer a gym or cafeteria, it is a theater.  We will not tolerate the playing with or touching of any gym equipment. The gym equipment does not belong to ALK and students do not have permission to use these items.  It is also very unsafe, disruptive and distracting to the who class to play with any sports equipment without a professional teacher present.

6. Come to class prepared

Students will be expected to practice and remember choreography, blocking, and lines within an allotted time.  Assignments will be given and students will be expected to show and demonstrate their knowledge in class.

7. Be respectful to others

The golden rule, “Treat others the way you want to be treated” applies for this class.  It takes a lot of courage and vulnerability to get up and sing, dance, and act in front of peers.  Always look for the good and offer encouragement to your classmates.

8. No eating during rehearsal

There is snack time between school dismissal and the start of rehearsal.  We allow 15 minutes to socialize, eat snack, go to the bathroom, and get a drink of water.  When rehearsal starts no food is allowed, so take the time we give you wisely. NO GUM. EVER.

9. Do not touch anything that does not belong to you

This means to keep hands, feet, and other belongings to yourself.  Do not touch other people or their things including scripts and props.

10. Have fun!
